Almost 2 months, feels like years

It’s been an interesting couple months, with adventures ranging from driving through the desert at dawn to an all day slog on the Mass Pike/NYS Thruway.  Family time both in the southwest and in western NY.  Even a High School reunion. My cultural life ranged from the Sante Fe Opera to the Alamogordo Community Theater who’s production of Mamma Mia! highlighted the best qualities of community arts. The enthusiasm of the guys in the chorus – young airmen from the local military base? – was so infectious! Now about the painting, well, it didn’t much happen. I didn’t think it really would – lots on my mind – these were complicated trips.

So I made it to my studio today, added a few tweaks to the already painted landscapes, and tried a simple still life setup – twice. I seem to no longer know how to paint. So much Cad Yellow wasted. But I’ll try again soon.

Wash/Rinse/Repeat

No photos of today’s work; I put paint on and I scraped it off. And did that all again a few more times. Yes, some days are like that.

In other news, another painting, a view of the Longfellow Bridge during construction, titled No Salt, No Pepper, has found a home.

A busy weekend with talented artists, great conversations and paintings on their way to new homes.

Thanks to the inspired women, Harikleia Kuliopulos of Art of the Arb and Jen Madden of Beacon Hill Art Walk, who organized these events, Edward Lehar & MK and Eve Lehar for help with the heavy lifting, my friends who dropped by with support and my new collectors who have given my paintings their forever homes. It’s time for me to focus on painting but next art fair will be Art in the Park in September. More info to come.

Installation at the South End BPL

Sharing my art with Tremont St passers-by in the display window at The South End Branch of the BPL. Thanks to the Marleen, Reinhold and Duncan for the opportunity and set-up assistance.

Exercises or Exorcises? Did I mention a productive 3+ months?

2019.04.HeadsWOW! I’m a bit amazed – I knew it but there’s nothing like a Catherine Kehoe  class to ramp up exploration and rethinking the work habits. This semester?  how little do you need to make a head? The vertical image has all my exercises (plus drawings) – each piece presenting a different challenge: B&W, a variety of limited palettes, limited shapes, limited strokes, only knife, color mixing charts, different drawing approaches, and no drawing on the collages (! making art without a net!) Giving up control really can be a good thing.2019.05.05.CatherinesHeadClass
