A quiet Saturday afternoon with my gouache and a handful of carnations. Nice to paint after all the ink drawings that I’ve been doing. In other living room/studio work, I’m taking tentative attempts with silver point and gessoing panels for using with my new acrylics that arrived this week.

Dead flowers – is it a Corona thing?
I don’t have oil paints at home where I’ve been since March 13. I do have gouache, an opaque water soluble paint. A quick visit to my studio a month ago made clear to me that it wasn’t a good idea for me. I do miss miss my art neighbors. And then I’ll open thisContinue reading “Dead flowers – is it a Corona thing?”
1st time out for Plein Air is always . . . an event?
First time out to paint this spring, trying out a newish easel at my favorite empty industrial park – yes, it’s 2020. Was close to finished and the wind blew everything over and smeared the painting. Nowhere to go but up! And good news? I can still zip up my painting jeans.

From the website: Water in all its forms inspires wonder: the intricate beauty of a snowflake’s design, the tranquility of a flowing stream, theContinue reading “A virtual exhibit –”
Art in the Time of Corona: week 1
My oil paints are in my studio, my acrylics are in a barn in Vermont and I, now with the attention span of a fruit fly, am sequestered at home with gouache, watercolors, pastels, crayons, inks and, thankfully, paper. It’s been awhile since I’ve used these, and I am expecting a certain amount of painContinue reading “Art in the Time of Corona: week 1”
Beginning: cyclamen
Scaling up to a 24×24 canvas. I want a bit more freedom & broad strokes that can come with this scale. I will be limited to just daytime painting to add a bit of backlight.
Just needs a frame: another one leaves the nest
On the Road to Carrizozo: painted from my memories of driving in the desert at dawn in New Mexico. I’m indecisive about the frame and have ordered another frame to try – a floater frame that will be a warm rosy brown. Once framed, it will be ready to send to its new home inContinue reading “Just needs a frame: another one leaves the nest”
Back to the studio – work in progress
This painting has issues but I’ve got time. Uniquely for me, I’m working from memory (an absolutely gorgeous sunrise drive across the desert seared into my neurons) and a few very poor photos.
